Cherub Acronym

A couple weeks ago I did a chapter chat activity on The Recruit. I'm doing The Recruit as my chapter chat this term because I'm on holiday and I'm not able to get my hands on a copy of the book my class is reading. Luckly the year 7&8 chapter chat book was The Recruit and my brother just happened to have taken it on holiday with him. So I am doing The recruit as my chapter chat book this term. The Recruit is a part of the series CHERUB. But in the series it never says what CHERUB actually stands for. In this activity I had to do an acronym for CHERUB. Here is a screenshot of my work. By the way, it took alot of reaserch to get this acronym.

Here is an explanation of this acronym.
Charles Henderson is the founder of the orgonisation CHERUB. Henderson Boys is another series which is set before cherub was created.  At the end of the book Eagle Day (which is part of the Henderson Boys series) you find out that charles henderson is starting somthing called Espionage Reasearch Unit B. Therefore CHERUB stands for Charles Hendersons Espionage Reaserch Unit B

Halloween Storybird Assignment

This is my halloween Storybird poem. In this Storybird I flicked through the picture backgrounds until I found one that was more my style and that I liked. Then I pieced together my poem. I did a bit of mix and matching with my words and sentences trying to find the best fit. Because there is selection of words to chose from, (I couldn't just type whatever, I had to pick out of the words that were there) I had to think about trying to tell whoever was reading the poem, what was going on, without actually making full sentences. (If you get what I mean.) Anyway, here is my poem. Enjoy!

Boiling Furious

This is my writing sample. The brief for this writing sample was "describe a time when your actions spoke louder that your words". So I wrote this fictional story. Enjoy!

Boiling Furious

Boiling Furious. That's how I was feeling. All It took was 1 slap across the face and I was without dinner for a night. I couldn't get to sleep with all these hateful emotions stuck in my head. This is a story of how I got into this mess.

It was a scorching summer afternoon. After a long hard working day of school, I was dying to get home. I raced home up the road and along the footpath on my bike.

As I pulled up the driveway on my bike all I could think about was the ice block I had been saving.   "Icy cold lemonade flavor, mmmmm" Quickly after parking my bike I made a beeline for the freezer.

That's when it hit me. Sitting soaking up the sun, licking my lemonade ice block was atawhai! Instantly, my face screwed up. It turned as red as a tomato. I was a volcano about to erupt. My face told all the emotions I was feeling. Storming toward her, I slapped her right across the face. It was the kind of slap that left a mark.

So that's how I got here. Sulking on my pillow. Awake at night with an empty stomach. Flooded inside with all these emotions. Hate, sickening jealousy, anger. But most of all I just felt Boiling Furious!

The End

Chocolate Charts

Last week we had a strand maths workshop. We were put into groups of about 4. Our walt was to estimate how many M&M's in a packet and how many of each color. Next we had to open up the packet and see how many were actually in the packet. Our Guesses were way off. My thoughts on that were that they probably just weigh the M&M's instead of counting a number of them for each color.

Next we made charts with the data we had gathered. We made one pie chart on google sheets with the percentage of each color. We made one bar graph on google sheets. But my favorite one was the actual M&M chart. We made a chart on paper with the actual M&M's to show the raw data. Also it looks really cool and I thought it was creative. Here is my charts. Two are in a slide show. One is a photo.

New BEDMAS Maths Learning

This past while I have been learning BEDMAS. BEDMAS is the order of operations in maths. So if I had to do a big complicated problem, I would use BEDMAS. BEDMAS stands for Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction. When I use BEDMAS I feel really clever solving big equations. At first when I look at the equation it looks really hard but after a while I usually get it. In the first Screencastify, I say what bedmas stands for. In the second screencastify, I solve an example question using BEDMAS. Enjoy my screencastify.
Hope You Learnt Somthing

Vivid Vocab

Last week was the final week of chapter chat. I completed another chapter chat vocab activity. My favorite word this time was muffler. I liked the word muffler because when I bike to school I get really cold ears and nose. So now I know what to look out for in the clothing section. Anyway, Here is my vocabulary slide.

Close up Indian portrait

Hi. This is my Chapter Chat activity. It is an Indian. I got to draw an Indian because in the little house on the prairie book the family encounter an Indian. My favorite thing about my Indian is his feathered headband. In my picture my Indian has red bits on the feathers. I put red on the feathers because with the red on the feathers it makes the picture pop! Also it makes the picture more interesting.
Here is my Indian picture.

Vocab reading activity

This is one of my reading activities this week. It is a slide that presents my new vocab. What I had to do for this activity was read the article chosen for this week. Find the meanings of six words we didn't know too well. Then, present them in our own words on a slide. My favorite word out of theses six is definitely assert. It means to state with confidence. It is my favorite because In speeches, wich is coming up, I with be asserting my opinion to the class and my parents. Anyway here is my slide.

DLO For Finding Area

Kia ora. This is my screencastify DLO for finding the area of a rectangle. I did this DLO based on strand maths learning this week. We had to create the biggest chicken run we could using 12 meters of chicken mesh. The catch was, we had to make the chicken run a rectangle. To measure who's chicken run was really the biggest we had to find the area of them. That's when the are learning came in. Anyway, Here is my screencastify.
In my video you may have noticed that I said meters squared .  A square meter is a square that measures one meter on each side . For example:

Chapter Chat Vocab

Kia ora. This post is about my chapter chat activity this week. This one is about my vocabulary. What you have to do for this activity is find the meaning of  the chosen words and present them in your own words on a slide. All the words are related to the class shared book that we are all reading,
"THE LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE". Some of the words are a bit old fashioned due to how old the book is. Anyway, here is my slide.

Here is my vocab for this week. I have updated this post to show This weeks vocab.

GEOMETRY DLO

This is my Geometry DLO. I created it using Google Slides. I created this DLO Based off the learning I did in one of my strand maths workshops. (This is my first ever strand DLO) My favorite new shape that I learned was the dodecagon. It is like a hexagon but with 12 sides! By the way please do not just click anywhere on the slide because you might mess with some of the links. Please click the next button or the instruced button (it is linked) Anyway here is my DLO if you want to play it!

Chapter Chat Gopher

Kia ora. Recently we have started reading Little House On The Prairie for Chapter Chat. One of the Chapter Chat activities to choose from was to draw a little Gopher. The reason why we could draw a Gopher is because in the book the children encountered some Gophers and had some fun trying to catch them. Here is my drawing. It is of a little brown Gopher peeking out of a hole in the ground.

Maths DLO For Use The Part Unknown Strategy To Compare Amounts.

Kia ora. This is my DLO for my new strategy. (DLO stands for Digital Learning Objective) With this DLO, instead of just using screencastify, I used google slides. It took a super long time to make this DLO, and it has some pretty cool animations that I created. I am really proud of this DLO, but one thing that you have got to watch out for, is that the slides go super fast so try your best to keep up with them! Another thing is that each slide will auto switch to the next one if you do not click the "NEXT" arrow within one minute of that slide starting. Anyway here is my DLO. I hope you enjoy it.

Times Table Diplomas

Kia ora. This week our focus was on times tables. We went to https://www.timestables.co.nz/diploma/  to help us learn our times tables. Our goals were to get our big and little Diploma tests finished with no mistakes. I have already reached my goal and now I am trying to get my trophy cabinet filled with times table medals. My next steps after that is to master my 8x tables. Here is some screenshots of my Diplomas.
